To say that Alo House saved my life would be a lie, because when I was using I didn’t really have a life. The truth is this amazing place gave me a chance at life. I learned more about myself in the three short months I spent at Alo House then I’ve ever cared to know in the last twenty five years. I created some of the strongest bonds I’ve ever had, with staff and clients alike. For the first time in what felt like my entire life, I was accepted for who I was, and didn’t have to put on a show. The little girl who first walked through those doors is not the woman I am today by any stretch of the imagination; the transformation that has taken place still wows me daily.
The whole team at Alo House loved me until I could love myself, and that was no easy task (not to mention they also loved my dog)! They helped me to create a real relationship with my mom. Without even knowing it they gave me back friends I didn’t deserve to have after how I treated them when I was using. As my mom says, Alo House gave me Jodi, my guardian angel. They listened to me and allowed me to advocate for myself. They got me to necessary doctor’s appointments after I had neglected myself for so many years. I put in a lot of hard work, but I would’ve never been able to do it without such an amazing group of people beside me. Today I am still involved. I visit whenever I can because Alo House has become my California Family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I could never express the gratitude I have for this amazing place, but it won’t stop me from trying.
