Moving forward in the face of fear is typically abnormal for those suffering with an addiction. The addictive life seeks out avoidance or the escaping from the experience of fear. Within the confines of a safe therapeutic space, the client has the opportunity to move through fear and migrate to the other side, which is freedom and choice. By encouraging the taking of responsibility for our emotional experiences, we can resolve rather than run, rest rather than ruminate, re-engage rather than resist.
